Name: Bill Lane

Title: Salesperson

When did you start working at Weir’s and what made you want to join the Weir’s family?

I started in 1983. I had just gotten married and my wife suggested I apply to Weir’s. I came in and went through five interviews. During the fifth interview they met my wife, then they gave me the job.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Weir’s?

You want my honest answer? Saturday at 6pm. Because by that time, you feel like you’ve done all that you can to help the customer, spent up all your energy doing what’s been asked and you can walk away from here feeling satisfied.

How has working at Weir’s impacted your life?

I love the Christian environment. Outside Weir’s, I have an issue with people taking God’s name in vain. I’ve heard enough of that in junior high. It’s a cleaner environment here at Weir’s. Every day here is started with a scripture reading and prayer which helps me get centered. That’s been a real blessing. Being able to talk freely about Christ has been the biggest impact for me.

What’s it like meeting lots of different customers while working at Weir’s?

The goal is to take them from customer to friend. After the initial meeting, I don’t look at them as customers anymore. These people are friends. I just love developing friendships with customers. I think that’s so nice.

In three words, how would you describe Weir’s as a company?

Focused, honest and customer service. Technically, that’s four words. I think the customer service at Weir’s far surpasses any other store.

Now let’s do some fun questions! What’s your go-to restaurant or meal?

I love Panda Express! I saw one in our neighborhood recently and I told my wife, “Oh my goodness! I didn’t know there was a Panda Express here.” I just love it.

What’s a movie or show you love to watch over and over again?

I’ll just give you a category. Anything British! I love the British accent. I could just listen to it all day long. Downton Abbey and shows like that are so much fun to watch. There’s such history too. One of my cousins traced our family back to the 1600’s and we had relatives living in Stafford, England. So, it’s fun to think about that.

If someone was to write your biography, what would it be called?

A Sinner Redeemed.

If you could meet anyone from history, who would you want to meet and why?

It would be my two grandfathers and my grandmother – who I never knew. One of my grandfathers I also never knew, and the other died when I was 12. I think it’s a big loss when you don’t get to know your grandparents. I would love to just sit with them in the park and listen to them.

What’s your favorite part of your day?

When my wife and I are just about to fall asleep. Because there’s nobody texting you, calling you and no responsibilities. It’s just time to rest.
